Group Classes & Training
at Strength Nation upper hutt
A fundamental aspect of being human is feeling part of a group and community. It’s the ultimate feeling of trust and surrender at the same time – trusting that everyone is doing their absolute best, working towards a greater outcome than you can achieve by working out alone.
We offer a diverse range of group fitness classes to suit all ages and fitness levels.
Members can book classes through their gym app. Casuals can contact us directly to secure a spot.
Circuit
Our Circuit classes are built around Metcon (metabolic conditioning) training. Combining functional, bodyweight, dumbbell and barbell movements in a fun, high-energy environment.
Each session is carefully structured to include:
- A targeted warm-up
- A main Metcon piece designed to challenge you physically.
- Accessory work to isolate muscle groups and improve movement quality.
Classes are programmed so that all fitness levels can train together and achieve the same intended stimulus, with scalable options provided for every movement, where safety is our top priority.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to push your performance further, our circuit classes deliver an efficient, well-rounded workout to support your fitness goals.
Hyrox
How Our HYROX Classes Work
Four classes. Four different jobs. One goal: a HYROX program built for everyone and anyone.
HYROX has a reputation for being hardcore, but the training itself is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done a rep in your life or you’re chasing a podium finish, there’s a class here that fits where you’re at right now. Nobody gets left behind, and nobody needs to earn their place before they start.
Strength Nation Upper Hutt runs four HYROX classes a week: Foundation, Engine, Power, and Complete. Each one trains a different part of what a HYROX race actually demands. You don’t need to pick just one. Most members end up doing a mix across the week, and we’ll help you figure out what that mix should look like for you.
Here’s the breakdown.
Foundation
This is where good movement gets built. Circuit-based, straightforward, and the class we’d point anyone new toward first, no matter your starting point. You’ll build baseline strength, general endurance, agility, and the movement skills that everything else in HYROX depends on. Every movement scales to you, so it works whether this is your first class ever or your five-hundredth.
Good for: anyone starting out, anyone coming back from a break, and anyone who wants a strong technical base under them before loading up intensity elsewhere. If you’ve been putting off starting because you’re not “fit enough” yet, this is exactly where you begin.
Engine
Your aerobic system, put to work. Intervals, sprint efforts, and workouts designed to push your lactate threshold and build the kind of endurance that lets you keep moving when it gets hard.
Good for: members who already have strength but get gassed on the run legs or longer efforts. If your power’s there but your lungs give out first, this is your class.
Power
Strength and muscular endurance, under fatigue. HYROX isn’t about lifting once, it’s about moving load again and again once you’re already tired, and that’s a skill in its own right.
Good for: members building strength from scratch, and endurance athletes who need to even things out so race day doesn’t expose a weak link.
Complete
The closest thing to race day itself. A blend of aerobic work, strength, and HYROX-specific skills, designed to put you under the same physical and mental pressure you’ll feel on the day.
Good for: anyone with a race on the calendar, or anyone who wants to test where they’re really at.
MumHIIT
A supportive return-to-exercise class designed for Mums. Focus on core strength, glute activation, and rebuilding confidence. Sessions are paced appropriately with plenty of coaching and support. Move, reconnect, and build strength alongside other Mums.
Recover with Strength Nation Upper Hutt
At Strength Nation Upper Hutt, we believe recovery isn’t a luxury, it’s a non-negotiable part of any serious fitness journey. Whether you’re pushing through heavy lifts, high-intensity sessions, or simply staying active day to day, your body needs dedicated time and tools to repair, rebuild, and come back stronger. That’s why we’ve invested in premium recovery options right here in our facility, so you never have to choose between training hard and recovering smart.
Sauna & cold plunge
The contrast of heat and cold is one of the most powerful recovery combinations available. We have two sauna experiences available to be booked via GymMaster. All sauna bookings gain access to the ice bath.
Private Sauna
Included with your membership is a complimentary private 30-minute sauna session. It’s your own dedicated space to relax and recover at your own pace, no sharing required. You’re also welcome to bring along a non-member guest to enjoy the experience with you.
Shared Sauna
This 30 minute sauna session is bookable by seat. It’s a great place to hang out if you feel like chatting or being social.
normatec session
Our Normatec compression therapy uses dynamic air pressure to massage your limbs from the ground up, mimicking the body’s natural muscle pump and accelerating blood flow back to the heart. It’s ideal for reducing swelling, easing muscle fatigue, and improving mobility — whether you’re recovering from a tough workout or just need to reset after a long day on your feet.

Membership FAQs
Can I use other Strength Nation locations?
Yes, your membership gives you access to every Strength Nation location, not just Upper Hutt. Classes are only bookable at your home site, so you’ll need to book Upper Hutt classes through the app as usual. One thing to keep in mind: if you end up training at another club more than your home gym, more than 50% of your visits in a month, your membership will automatically transfer to that club at their membership rate.
Are there any joining fees?
No, none of our memberships require a joining fee.
Do you offer family or couples memberships?
Not at Upper Hutt. Instead, our two-tier membership structure gives you the flexibility to choose the option that best suits your own training and recovery needs. You’ll find more detail under memberships.
Can I put my membership on hold?
Yes, you can put your membership on hold for up to 6 weeks every 6 months. If you need longer, get in touch and we’ll sort something out.
Is there a minimum membership term?
All memberships run for a minimum of 8 weeks. After that, you can cancel any time with no cancellation fee.
Can I sign up online?
Yes, head here to sign up. Once you’re in, come into the gym to pick up your key fob and get your intro session booked.
Can I visit as a casual?

Classes FAQs
What classes do you offer?
Circuit, HYROX, and MumHIIT. You’ll find a full description of each on our website.
Will you be adding more classes?
Yes, we’ll keep adding classes as our membership grows.
Are classes included in my membership?
Yes, classes are included with every membership (how many per week depends on your tier).
How do I book a class, and where's the timetable?
The weekly timetable is on our website and in the GymMaster app, and you book directly through the app. Classes open for booking exactly one week in advance, so we’d recommend booking as soon as bookings open to secure your spot. Casuals can contact us directly to book. Any questions, just get in touch.
Sauna & Cold Plunge FAQs
What sauna options are available?
Two types: a private sauna, booked as your own 30-minute slot, and a communal sauna, booked by the seat in 30-minute slots.
How do I book a sauna session, and how far ahead?
Members book through the GymMaster app (select ‘Book Service’). Casuals should contact the gym directly. Bookings open one week ahead, and we’d recommend booking early, especially for private sessions, as these fill up fast.
How does the cold plunge work?
Cold plunge access is included with any sauna booking, private or communal, and can’t be booked separately. In the communal sauna, everyone who’s booked that slot shares cold plunge access, so please rotate respectfully so everyone gets a turn.
Can I bring a guest?
Yes, for private sauna bookings you’re welcome share your booking with someone, but they must
also be a member, or have a casual pass. Communal sauna seats are booked individually.
How long is a session?
Your full session, sauna and cold plunge combined, runs for 30 minutes.
What should I bring, and do I need to shower first?
Please shower before your session to keep things clean for everyone, and bring a towel to sit on in the sauna. Appropriate swimwear or clothing must be worn at all times in both the sauna and cold plunge.
Are there any health considerations?
Please don’t use the sauna or cold plunge if you’re feeling unwell. If you’re pregnant, or have a heart condition, blood pressure issues, or any other relevant health concern, check with your doctor before booking. We’d also recommend avoiding alcohol beforehand, staying hydrated, and not exceeding the 30-minute session. If you feel unwell during your session, exit straight away and let a staff member know.
What if I'm running late or need to cancel?
You can cancel your booking through the GymMaster app up until 2 hours before your session. If it’s within 2 hours of your session, please contact the gym directly.
Kids Zone FAQs
Do you have a children's space?
Yes. Our Kids Zone is available for children aged 3–12 whose parent or guardian is training or using the facility at the same time.
Do I need to book the Kids Zone?
Yes, bookings are essential! Book by selecting ‘book a service’ in GymMaster! Bookings are available for a 1 hour slot. If there are multiple children attending, please ensure you let us know in the notes.
What about babies and under 3s?
Under 3s can’t use the Kids Zone, but they’re welcome to accompany a parent to MumHIIT sessions.
Can older kids use the space?
Over 12s are welcome at a parent’s discretion, but priority goes to the 3–12 age group during busy periods.
Is the Kids Zone supervised by staff?
No, it’s a self-supervised space. Parents and guardians are responsible for checking on their children regularly and for their safety at all times.
Can my child come onto the gym floor with me, even briefly?
No. For health and safety reasons, children aren’t permitted on the gym floor, in studio classes, or in any training area under any circumstances. They need to stay in the Kids Zone for the full duration of your visit.
Are there any rules around shoes, food, or time limits?
No shoes are to be worn in the Kids Zone, please remove them before entering. Food in a lunchbox is welcome, but no loose snacks, open containers, or drinks other than water. Sessions are capped at 60 minutes per visit and 10 children at a time, so everyone gets fair access. Soft play, books, puzzles, and our provided toys are all available; please leave outside toys at home.
What are the behaviour expectations?
We ask that children stay in the designated Kids Zone at all times, don’t use gym equipment or wander through the gym, and avoid running or disruptive behaviour. If behaviour becomes disruptive or unsafe for other children, we’ll ask a parent to collect their child, and we reserve the right to ask a member to remove their child from the space if needed. Parents are responsible for any damage caused by their child.
What about cleanliness and hygiene?
Please make sure children’s hands are clean before play, and hold off bringing them in if they have a cold, cough, runny nose, or other illness, for everyone’s sake. When you collect your child, please clean up any mess left behind (vacuum and cleaning products are provided) so the space stays clean and respectful for the next family.
Can I leave my child in the Kids Zone and go train elsewhere on-site (e.g. a studio class)?
Yes, as long as you stay inside the facility, your child stays in the Kids Zone, and you’re reachable. You’re still responsible for checking in on them regularly.
What if my child needs help or there's an incident?
Parents must be reachable and within the facility at all times. In an emergency, staff will locate the parent immediately. We take the safety of everyone on-site seriously, but children are brought to the facility at their parent’s own risk, and by bringing a child into the gym you’re accepting full responsibility for their safety and wellbeing.
